Course
Every semester DFC offers a beginners course at the sports centre of the Delft University of Technology. During three months you will learn the basic fencing skills under the guidance of Boudewijn Wisse. The course consist of foot work: the guard position, the step, the lunge and several combinations. Furthermore there will be attention for the use of the weapon: you will learn how to thrust and to parry.
Every Tuesday evening we start at 18:45h with a warming up. Then attention will be paid to different aspects of the foot work, followed by exercises with the weapon. We will focus on strategy, tactics, technique and the psychology of the fencing game. Most evenings will end with fitness exercises with attention for endurance, flexibility, power, speed and agility.
If you are advancing well enough you can start sparring with fellow beginners and advanced fencers at DFC. Furthermore you can join Boudewijn and other DFC fencers to tournaments. There you can meet fencers from other clubs and experience what it is like to fence under game conditions.
Trainer
Boudewijn Wisse started fencing in 2000. During his study Industrial Design at the Delft University of Technology, he learned fencing under the guidance of his master Hossein Niknam. In 2005 he participated in the Dutch Championships (épée) and became third. Furthermore he competed at several world cups in France and Germany. Boudewijn knows how to make the connection between your intelligence and the physical aspects of fencing. Therefore it can be possible to fence at a national level within a relative short period of time.
