Foil – Delft Fencing Club
Foil
One might say that foil is something of a middle ground between épée and sabre. Attacks are delivered with the point as with épée but the speed and rules are more akin to those of sabre. Foil bouts are often fast passed and energetic exchanges which require the full attention of the fencers.
The greatest difference between foil and épée is the rules. When fencing foil, you have to think about priority. This means that the person with the priority will be awarded the point if both fencers land a valid hit. So, it is somewhat similar to sabre but in foil hits delivered with the edge of the blade aren’t valid.
Although we do not train foil actively you are welcome to bring your own fencing equipment and fence foil with others.
